The modern classroom is a very different place to the ones most of us inhabited in our youth, and getting to grips with the range of technologies available can be a daunting task to new teachers. However, by doing a little research and heading online to compare notes and discuss your experiences with like-minded teachers, you could find it easier to kit out your classroom with the most beneficial teaching resources available.

One of the most significant agendas governing the development of classroom resources is the understanding that pupils learn in different ways, and at different levels. It's no longer widely accepted that all children should take in knowledge at the same rate, and pupils who may previously have felt left behind in decades past now have the opportunity to learn at their own pace in many areas. Similarly, fast learners who are proficient at completing tasks ahead of their classmates will no longer have to feel stifled or like they are being let down by their peers.

Independent learning resources such as monitors give pupils greater control over their own learning, but it's still important for teachers to retain their authority, of course. Interactive whiteboards are a proven method of capturing children's attention and imagination, as the information you teach can be accompanied by vibrant images and multimedia files, such as sound and video. Pupils who are more engaged with the subject being taught are more likely to succeed, and by encouraging them to interact with information presented on the screen, you could also develop their confidence.

Pupils could be engaged even further by making learning fun, in the form of interactive games. This technology was in its infancy when many of today's teachers were pupils themselves, but has come a long way since, and pupils of all ages can benefit enormously when suitable and relevant games are incorporated into lesson plans covering a variety of topics - from maths or science concepts to key moments in history.

Interactive teacher resources aren't only of benefit to pupils though, as teachers can also reduce some of the pressure of their daily routine when preparing lessons in advance, or even downloading them from dedicated websites. This will give you more time to dedicate to the pupils' learning experience while in the classroom environment, and when you prepare a solid lesson plan you won't have to worry so much about your lessons finishing on time.
