Metro West has their own 4 corners: The Assabet River National Wildlife Refuge at the corner of Hudson, Stow, Maynard, and Sudbury. I was disappointed to miss the grand opening weekend of the new Visitor Center in Mid-October. If you're a nature lover, and looking for something to do with your family, look no further. This fall, the new visitor center is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday 10-4.

In the US, there are over 500 refuges in the National Wildlife system set aside for conservation use, eight right here in MA. The diverse environment at Assabet River is perfect for maintaining a variety of wildlife species for your family to enjoy. There are over 15 miles of trails, giving options from .2 miles to 2 mile loops for every level of physical ability to enjoy the scenery and observe nature. There is a wetland area, and forested land, giving the land a great landing spot for migratory birds. I think its great to see land once inhabited by Native Americans preserved for nature.
To help plan your trip, and see a map of the land, a copy of the Assabet River brochure can be found online. Whether you enjoy nature photography, bird migration, walking, fishing, or biking, there is something for everyone. Please remember, Assabet River is a "carry in, carry out" site. Take care of the land, so we can enjoy the land for generations to come.
