Maybe you have ever finished reading anything and also thought to yourself, "I didn't understand a word of what I just read."
You probably just used the wrong term.
Are you SURE you didn't understand? Or is certainly it that you can't REMEMBER what you just read?
Jeanette Kasper, a leading expert in reading comprehension plus training struggling readers to read easily revealed, "It's time we separate fact from fiction along with start defining the right problem. The real story below is certainly you understand what you read just fine. The problem is definitely: you aren't focused, along with you can't REMEMBER what you read!" Mrs. Kasper says, "If you get to the end of a passage and also you say to yourself, "I didn't understand a thing I just read, think again!" Are you sure reading comprehension is the issue?

There are two issues:

The first issue is definitely that your mind goes on vacation as soon as you start reading. So you get to the end of your reading and the words you use are, "I didn't understand a word." The truth, though, is actually that you weren't focused along with you actually didn't really read a word! You were thinking or daydreaming instead of focused on your reading.
That's not a comprehension issue, that's a boredom issue! Reading can be really boring, as well as we sometimes get in the habit that as soon as we pick up something to read, we send our minds on vacation!

The second issue is definitely using the word comprehension instead of retention or remembering or memory.
People, even teachers, use the wrong word.

As proof, Jeanette Kasper asks adults as well as children who struggle with reading to consider these four areas before deciding that you struggle with read because you can't understand what you read.

. Comprehension occurs during reading. Retention occurs AFTER the reading is actually finished.
. Do you UNDERSTAND what you are reading WHILE you are reading it? Then your comprehension is certainly 100%!
. BUT you just can't REMEMBER what you read when you're done?? Then you aren't RETAINING. We'll work on your memory!
. Do you give your head a shake along with think, "Oh yeah, I was reading!" That's not a Comprehension issue, that's FOCUS! You sent your mind on vacation instead of focusing on the reading.

If you truly didn't understand what you read, then it's a topic that you are unfamiliar with along with you are learning it. You can build layers of comprehension fairly quickly.
Just don't mislabel the issue anymore.

If you understood it while you were reading it, your comprehension is actually 100%. If you don't remember what you read, time to implement a recall system so that you CAN remember every word you read. If you send your mind on vacation and even don't take in a word that you read, work on focus. There are easy ways to ensure that you are focused 100% on your reading.
