Children are the hope for our future, so while they are in childcare or school they should receive an equal amount of playtime and structural activities. Young children need consistence and scheduling while in the mind developing stage. A child needs to early identify when it is appropriate to play and when it is not. Although, running and jumping on the playground and during some activities in circle time are fun activities all children enjoy, being able to sit quietly at a table to learn the alphabets are essential to children also.
Developing the ability to separate play and work at a young age is a skill that will be beneficial to them, as they get older. For example, if a child was not taught structure in daycare or preschool when they become of age to begin elementary the transition will be difficult even thought, elementary does provide some playtime, an abundance of the time is work and structural activities. To conclude young children and toddlers need a curriculum to balance playtime and work time to early prepare them for the real world ahead. All this playtime learn by play to me is not working for children that need to learn to read and write when for the years of elementary. I feel that is why mean of our children are finishing 5th grade and can read on the a 5th grade level and not passing the FCAT. Learning start in preschool and Daycare so strutural learning should start there not first day of kindergarden.
