Child Development 5-11 months

Social Emotional :Laughs out loud; may show displeasure if social contact is broken; excited at sight of food.Prefers mother ,babbles, enjoys looking at their image in the mirror.Start to recognize the difference between people they know and strangers that they may be afraid of.Responds to sound of name;plays peek-a-boo-a;waves bye bye.

Language:Polysyllabic vowel sounds formed.Repetitive consonant sounds (mama,dada) Language acquisition progresses in the following developmental pattern:crying, cooing, babbling, saying single words, comprehending words, combining words.

Cognitive:Enjoys dropping objects over edge of chair or crib.Searches for toys hidden under a blanket ,basket or container.Recognizes familiar faces,voices,and touches.Expands emotional signals.Initiates goal-directed action.Remembers events and retrieves useful information.Playfully exercises means-end sequences.

Fine Motor:Reaches out for and grasps large object.Transfers objets from hand to hand.Grasps objects  with thumb and forefinger;pokes at things with forefinger;picks up small objects with inferior pincer movement;attempts to retrieve dropped object;releases object grasped by other person.

Gross Motor :Prone:lifts head and chest,leg extended .Rollover;pivots;crawls.Supine:reaches and grasps objects and brings them to month. Lifts head; roll over.Sitting :sits briefly,with support of pelvis, back rounded .Then sits up alone and indefinitely, without support, back straight.Standing:pushes with feet.Bounces actively.Pulls to standing position "cruises" or walks holding on to furniture.

Social emotional 12 -18 months:will show affection for stuffed toys and dolls by hugging.Will demostrate rhythm by dancing and moving to music.Will love to have an audience .Will begin to feel self-pride.
