The chance of landing a good job starts with writing a resume. If you find a job that gives you fulfillment and competitive financial compensation at the same time, you won’t only feel good about yourself; you also won’t have to rely too much on credit cards or a cash converters loan. Reserve these quick and easy financial strategies for more urgent needs that could arise in the future.

However, with thousands of fellow applicants vying for the same position that you’re applying for, you need to be more aggressive not just in how you present yourself during the interviews, but more importantly, on how you write your resume. To write a concise resume that will get you interviews, follow this quick guide.

Formatting makes the first impression. How you format your resume gives the first impression to employers. Even if you have good credentials, if your resume is not written in an organized and pleasant manner, it could end up in the trash. Use underlines when necessary. Present your name and headings in bold and other sub-headings in italics.

Put your personal information at the top. This should be brief and direct to the point. Don’t write your personal information in paragraph. Present them in bullet points instead. Limit the information to your name, phone number, and email. Secondary info such as birthday, marital status, and religion are not as necessary.

Focus on “how you may help the employer.” The first thing that employers would want to know is how they could benefit from you if they choose you for the position. To achieve this, you have to carefully understand what they’re looking for, for the position. Read the job description thoroughly. If you have previous experience and certifications that could add value to the position that you’re applying for, don’t hesitate to highlight them.

Keep it short. The ideal pages for resumes is 1 to 2 pages but if you can keep it to just one page, the better.  Employers receive lots of resumes every day. They won’t have time to go over a three-page resume. As mentioned, avoid paragraphs and stick to bullet points as much as possible.

Making an effective resume is a skill but with practice and in time, you’d be able to perfect the curriculum vitae that will get you interviews and land you your dream job. By then, you no longer have to rely too much on your credit cards or cash converters.
