Volkswagen recently launched the new Passat CC and renamed it so it’s now called the VW CC. Next week Volkswagen will officially launch the new Passat Alltrack – an estate version of the <a href="http://www.citygate.co.uk/volkswagen/new-cars/view/30/new-volkswagen-passat">Volkswagen Passat in London</a>. The Alltrack has been enhanced to be better suited for off road use. It will come with all-wheel drive as standard in the UK and will sit between the Passat estate and the Tiguan in VW’s model line-up.
UK Customers will only get to choose between a 2.0 litre turbo diesel with 138 or 168 bhp and it will be fitted with VW’s 4Motion all-wheel drive. European models will come with front wheel drive as an option and a couple of petrol engines. Depending on which engine a buyer goes for in the UK, they can have the six-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed DSG.
The VW Passat Alltrack is not just an off roader by name, it has the physical ability to tackle the rough and tough and it has been aesthetically designed to be able to handle it. On the looks side it has front and rear bumpers inspired by the Tiguan and Touareg SUVs and flared wheel arches wrapped in black plastic cladding.
The fact that VW has added its “Off-Road Driving Programme” in the Alltrack goes to show that they are pitching it as a serious off roader. The off road programme electronically tunes equipment including the electronic differential, ABS, torque control, hill descent and, in the DSG-equipped car, gearbox shift points to provide a more focused off-road drive.
The new VW Passat Alltrack will be available next summer; order books will open in the spring. VW has not officially announced any pricing but expect it to cost around £26,000.
