Language is a very important tool that is used in communication. There are different languages that are used during communication depending with an individual’s background among other factors. Language can be used both in written and in speech. Written language is very common in this twenty first century where there is increased online communication. Our use of language enables other people to understand who we are and our values. This paper is a comparison of my current language use and how I would like to use my language to my advantage.
Looking at my current language use, I realize that there are very many skills of language that I have learnt to incorporate over time. Most of these things are very basic. I have learnt to be very keen both to my spoken and written language. This enables me to easily correct myself where there are mistakes. I also have tutors who have been closely monitoring my spoken and written language. Friends have also highly helped me in improving my language.
Currently my language use is good due to the fact that I have learnt how to use important aspects that are necessary in language. They include the use of the right concrete nouns. These concrete nouns have enabled me to easily pass across concrete reality. I also use abstract nouns that help me easily create a reality that is quite conceptual in nature. I have known how to carry out normalization in relation to turning verbs into nouns. This makes my scripts very enjoyable to the reader. This helps me to pass across my message to the recipient or reader very clearly.
My language consists of the correct use pronouns throughout in language. I ensure that verbs are correctly used in my sentences. This enables me to clearly communicate what I had in mind. I currently know how to use adjectives correctly throughout my speech and also in my written language. Initially, I had a problem with this issue but currently my overall use of adjectives is perfect. I ensure that I also us the adverbs very correctly. I use adverbs in showing size and also relative frequency of the occurrence of something. This has really helped me because it has increased and also intensified my overall communication.
Prepositions are also well used in my language. I ensure that I use the correct conjunctions and interjections. I have learnt to use persuasive language especially in my essays. This enables me to pass my examinations. It has also enabled me to have scholarships through essay competition participation.
In the long run my essays are really persuasive and I end up winning scholarships. Through my persuasive skills in both written and spoken language, I have managed to persuade and also convince many people concerning different issues. In this I use trivializing words that have the power to deflate what other people say that is not true.
The use of persuasive language has also enabled me to get part time employment in organizations. I use this persuasive language in my cover letters and Curriculum Vitae. My sentence structures are very good. I ensure that I use very simple sentences so that the meaning of my message is very clear.
Sometimes are use compound sentences where details that are very rich in nature are required. I also use statements where there is the need to appreciate, to clearly express my feelings and also where there is the need, to establish facts. My use of appreciative; language has enabled me to have many friends who have been very influential and beneficial to my life.
I currently use questions where there is need to cause thinking and also acquiring information in various subjects. I know how to use correct command in my language to gain acquiescence. I sometimes use exclamations in my work to evoke emotions and grab people’s attention. I use the right clauses, phrases and clause arrangement.
Language as earlier on illustrated, is the core of communication. As earlier on illustrated, I ensure that I use the correct punctuations in order to avoid confusing the reader or the listener. I always ensure that I use the correct apostrophe in my sentence structures. These apostrophes normally show the missing letters or sometimes I use them to show possession of something.
This enables me to pass on the message that was intended. I use colons to show strong contrasts, presaging lists and causal connection. I effectively use commas to show pauses in between sentence and also to create separation of ideas. In my language structure, I also ensure that I use dashes appropriately. Ellipses are also used in relation to building tension in my written work. This creates anxiety on the reader’s side and in the long run holds the readers attention throughout the script.
My work normally has semicolons effectively used to separate lists and any related texts. I use quotation marks to show speech and different words. Hyphens are used to connect any related words together. Every sentence has a period at the end of it to show the end of a particular sentence. It is very clear that without proper punctuation marks in language, it becomes very hard for the reader to get the overall meaning.
I would also like to use language to my advantage by being very keen with what I write or speak. This is especially in the spoken language since there are times that I am overcome by emotions. These emotions in most cases make me to use language carelessly without much thinking. This results in using impolite language especially when I am angered. I would also like to use language to my advantage by using courteous words. These are words like; welcome, thank you, please, may I and so on. This is because these words will help me to build bridges where they have been broken.
I would also like to use language to encourage those that are discouraged in the society. I would like to use language to encourage the broken hearted. These are people who have probably lost their loved ones, the sick, those that are suffering from HIV/AIDS.
Through this initiative I would feel very fulfilled in life knowing that I have used language to brighten up someone’s day or give them new hope. I would like to do this through different media like television and radio. Through words of hope, these people’s lives would have a different meaning and this would make me happy.
In conclusion I have to say that words have power. Whether they are written or spoken. This is regardless of the language that is used. My current language use involves the use of correct sentence structures. I ensure that I use the right punctuation marks so that the original meaning is passed across.
My current language use involves using persuasive language that enables me to convince employers of my potential. I would like to use language to my advantage through using encouraging words. This is especially to the people who are disadvantaged in the society. These people include orphans, widows, widowers and also HIV/AIDS patients.
This will make be fulfilled in life. I would also like to use courteous words in my language. This will enable me to build the bridges that I have broken in the past. It will also enable me to be viewed by other people as a very good person. All these however need persistence and willingness to learn.
