According to it's many advantages, online marketing offers a very profitable earning opportunity for online entrepreneurs. But there are 1000's of internet marketing programs and products and deciding which marketing program to join and promote requires the consideration of a hand of things.

Let's discuss about the key points which you should consider before joining an affiliate program:--

(i) To start with, you should only target those products in which you are personally interested. Look for quality products which you will be proud of selling. The affiliate program or product must match your internet business plan.

(ii) If you have an already existing blog or site, make sure that the products which you promote through it are relevant to the niche of the blog/site. If you have a website/blog on gardening, do not try to promote fitness products through it.

(iii) A good thing is to buy the product from your own affiliate link and use it yourself. This will help you to understand the benefits of using the same. Personal experience will help you to convince people better.

(iv) Always go for niches which are growing. Promote those products which can solve people's problems. The product should not be too costly.

(v) Look for an affiliate program which provides different marketing tools for it's affiliates. These tools will help you in your promotional efforts.

(vi) The product selected should offer a high commission rate. Look for programs which offer 30 to 70% commissions. You may also join programs which pay commissions for repeat sales from the same customer.

(vii) If you are capable of recruiting new affiliates, join 2-Tier affiliate programs. They provide you with two sources of income -- one from direct sales and the other from recruiting new affiliates. Some programs may pay you a fixed amount for each new affiliate recruited through you whereas some may pay a percentage on their sales.

(viii) Different programs have different payment policy. Some may pay through Paypal whereas others may pay through bank transfer, check or some other means. These points must be considered. The program owner must have good commission payment history.
