Generally, three different objects are used to hoist a flag. For example, the staffs are used to hoist flags used in a military parade or the ones that are used in our houses. Truck- The top of a flagpole is referred to as truck. The trucks are the points where the pulleys are commonly attached in order to raise or lower the flag as and when required through the rope hanging below.
Finial- A finial is nothing but a decorative ornament that is usually placed on the top of a truck. In fact, it is better to say that a finial is much more intricate compared to that of an ornament such as eagles, kites and others.
Halyard- The halyard is the much needed rope that connects the top of the pole to the bottom and is used for raising or lowering the flags. The halyards are mostly multi filament and commonly available in lengths ranging between twenty eight to eighty feet. They can be connected with the top both internally and externally but for better security reasons it is recommended to use an internal system.
Snaps- The snaps are used to attach the flags to the halyards. They are mostly found in the forms of plastic and swivel clips.
Flash Collar- The flash collar is the name given to the base decoration of the flagpole. It comes in a variety of colors in the likes of white, bronze aluminum or black.
