Historically Jaguar use to produce big gas guzzling cars, they never really ventured into the diesel market until they bought out the X and S Type. Consumer demand and market conditions dictated that Jaguar had to invest in diesel technology. If I remember correctly many of the diesel units were “borrowed” from Ford for the S and X Type, in fact the X Type has the same 2.1 litre diesel engine as found in the same age Ford Transit vans for sale!

Since TATA motors took over things have changed dramatically, Jaguar as a brand has made massive strides forward and reinvented the wheel in many cases. The X and S Type models were dumped and replaced by the XF. It’s no secret that the XF has been a huge success for Jaguar and a game changer, it revolutionised the way people think of Jaguar. It has also given Jaguar the confidence and financial clout needed to experiment with new technology and designs.

The new very fuel efficient Jaguar XF with the 2.2 litre diesel engine has taken the market by storm. The XF has won over people with its looks, drive, ride and practicality the only thing that was missing was high fuel efficiency. Jaguar quickly identified this and now introduced the diesel engine. Last week a British team crossed North America, from New York to Los Angeles, in a Jaguar XF 2.2 litre Diesel, they were able to average an incredible 62.9 mpg over 2,884-miles – declaring the new diesel XF as the most efficient Jaguar ever created.

The 2.2 litre diesel engine takes nothing away from the comfort, refinement or driveability from the XF. The diesel model comes with leather trim as standard as well as a touchscreen display and climate control. It is no slouch either; it can do 0-62 mph in 8 seconds and has a top speed of 140 mph.
