For a country that makes some of the best beer in the world, it’s weird to think that the Czech Republic itself is barely old enough to drink – in its present form, the country has only existed for 18 years, having split with Slovakia to create two separate republics in 1993.
It’s also barely old enough to drive, which is even more amusing when you consider the leaps being made by Czech auto manufacturer Skoda at the moment. (Skoda itself dates back to the 19th century, when it started out making bicycles).
But despite our clever attempt to use numbers to distort the truth (our ‘Czech teenager’ analogy doesn’t stand up to well under scrutiny), the real numbers tell us that Skoda is on a charge. If you are thinking about buying a new Octavia, it seems that you have a lot of company.
In the UK, Skoda’s sales are up nine percent year-on-year, with the flagship Octavia driving most of those figures. It’s October sales worldwide are up 11.3 percent. With large chunks of the planet still shaking themselves out of a global recession, that’s a pretty clear indicator that it’s doing something right.
The secret of the Octavia’s current success is pretty straightforward – it’s a well-thought-out, reliable car with a bit of style for a good price, and the higher-end models come equipped with a full array of options.
Sometimes there’s no harm in jumping on a bandwagon, so now is as good a time as any to drop in to a specialist dealer like Skoda Octavia Barnstaple to find out what all the fuss is about.
