When looking for a new car most buyers want to make sure they get a good deal. If you are buying a new car what you want to look for is one which of course have the qualities you want in terms of size and performance but you also want one which holds it value well which means that when you come to sell it in a few years time, you’ll get some money back on your purchase.

Interestingly enough it seems to be the smaller sized cars which depreciate less while bigger cars seems to drop in price more quickly.

One of the best performers in this respect is the Mini Cooper where prices stay high because of its popularity. Even with prices starting at £23,000 the Mini will only lose around 11% of its value in the first 12 months of ownership.

Another example of car which holds it value well is the rather quirky looking Nissan Juke which is available in both two- and four wheels drive and thus work for both city dwellers and country folks alike. Predicted depreciation over one year is 16.8% of initial value.

Another small vehicle holding its value well is the Audi A1 which depreciates as little as 10.5%. It is economical yet nippy but with an initial price tag of around £17,800 it’s for many an expensive choice. In comparison a Nissan Juke has a start price of £12,800. If you want to test out a new Nissan, Guildford is one place to try.But although these models all keep their value very well, a lot of cars will depreciate around 30% in their first year and this will still be considered holding their value well. One example here would be the Volkswagen Polo which on average depreciates around 26% in its first year which equates to around £2,500 in price drop.

It is worth noting that most manufacturers which feature on the list of cars which holds their value well will also feature on the list of cars which depreciates greatly as most manufacturers will produce models which are popular and that people want and models which for some reason people don’t find that desirable. So although a car such as the Nissan Juke will be on the list of cars which hold their value well, a two year old the Nissan Note will be on the list of great bargain buys.
