Movie may increase demand for Eve Arnold Prints

The photographs of Eve Arnold have long been popular among those seeking art prints for sale, including people keen to buy art canvas prints from Artisan Galleries.
However, interest in these offerings may increase yet further thanks to a film released last month starring Michelle Williams as Marilyn Monroe. Although Arnold has photographed many famous people, including Queen Elizabeth II, Malcolm X and Joan Crawford, she is perhaps best known for her snaps of the iconic movie star.
The new film, My Week With Marilyn, documents the tense interactions between Sir Laurence Olivier and Marilyn during production of The Prince and the Showgirl and, in addition to Williams, it stars Eddie Redmayne and Kenneth Branagh.
Commenting on the film, the Guardian noted that it shows a different side to the glamorous yet troubled Hollywood A-lister. It remarked: "The Monroe that the film wants to show us is a different Marilyn, in sweaters not sequins, monochrome rather than pink or silver."
It also pointed to Eve Arnold's famous portraits of the star that were taken a few years after the period in which the movie was set. It noted that the images were caught on the set of The Misfits in 1960 and they show an "almost tomboyish style, with the actor wearing jeans, a white shirt, and a denim jacket".
Meanwhile, Jill Taylor, costume designer for My Week With Marilyn, revealed she based her choice of outfits on pictures taken of the star. She stated: "I found a wonderful photo of her taken during the time the film is set, cycling in the English countryside. She is wearing capri pants, flat loafers and a chunky navy cardigan. She had a very natural, understated way of dressing. I think she was rather ahead of her time, in fact."
